Ann Arbor, Michigan - Cybernet Systems Corporation, a leading defense, engineering, and simulation systems development company, today announced that they have been awarded a contract to develop a Fire Control System for Small Caliber Weapons.

Cybernet Systems is currently working with the U.S. Army to build the first article prototype of a LADAR-based closed-loop-fire-control system for small caliber weapons.  LADARs leverage the reflection of emitted laser light to track the distance to objects in the environment, and for moving objects (such as bullets) the high update rate of many LADARs (flash LADARs in particular) allow for an accurate calculation of the velocity of the object from a series of position updates, while providing a 3D picture of the environment.  To execute this program, Cybernet Systems will be manufacturing and integrating the first prototype closed-loop-fire-control system, based on the design developed during a previous contract.  It is envisioned that the developed control system will eventually be used to improve the aim of soldiers, improving soldier lethality and survivability.
