With funding from the Department of Homeland Security, Cybernet Systems Corporation is working with the Los Angeles Police Department to develop ASK-IQ, an intelligent knowledge discovery application for crime prevention. With ASK-IQ’s predictive policing capabilities, detectives can more clearly see patterns in criminal activity so that department forces can be deployed more effectively to prevent crimes from happening, rather than reacting to them afterward. ASK-IQ is a web-based application that can be used with any SQL-compliant database. Data visualization is done based on the basic questions asked: When (displays trend over time or calendar); Where (displays waypoints or regions on a map); and What (displays tabular information based on crime code).
