Since providing a mapped route free of underwater obstructions and verifying sufficient depth for a surface craft’s draft requirements would greatly improve the confidence of boat pilots when traveling upriver at high speed, Cybernet is developing a small, single man-portable, covert AUV to provide this capability to riverine boat crews.  The unmanned “scout” autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) will travel ahead to sweep a clear path upriver for the surface craft, identifying any areas of concern.  To ensure the vehicle stays small and capable, we are focusing on energy and volume (packaging) efficiency.  Energy efficiency will be accomplished both by optimized hardware as well as highly intelligent software.  Volume efficiency will be achieved through multi-feedback sonar.
